Years 1 and 2
At Horsham 298 Primary School, Year 1 and 2 classes work closely together and follow a 2-year curriculum program. In 2009 we have two Year 1 classes, two Year 2 classes and one combined Year 1/2 class.
Art Is
Obviously a lot of our time is taken up with classes in literacy (English) and numeracy (Maths). Year 1 and 2 is a vital stage in children’s educational development and the growth that we see in our students over the two years is phenomenal – Coming to us straight out of Prep and leaving us well-and-truly ready for the more complex work of Years and 4.
Hard at work in grade 1 & 2
As well as a comprehensive class program, students have lessons with specialist teachers in the areas of Music/Drama, Science and Technology, Physical Education and AUSLAN Signing.
Signing Performances
Computer skills are taught by classroom teachers, making regular use of the school’s new computer lab as well as mobile trolleys of laptop computers. By taking this approach, computer activities can be incorporated logically into the general class program.
As well as a comprehensive Health program, classroom teachers also teach Humanities lessons each week.
Our Healthy Food Day
This year, our major Humanities unit will be looking at change over time. In our ‘Blast from the Past’ unit, students will investigate changes in different aspects of everyday life. After sharing this information with their classmates in other grades, our unit will culminate with a ‘Blast From the Past’ dress-up day where students (and teachers) will experience a day of school as it may have been 100 years ago!
