20 Questions
- Attempt to guess the identity of a secret piece of
information. e.g. character, object, occupation, pastime, book.
film, country, etc.
- Responses should be only in Yes or No.
- Children should be encourage to eliminate characteristics and
not wildly guess.
Book Exchange
- Read and review a book with another class.
- Put it in the post or arrange to buy the same book.
- Why not do an international book exchange and tell each other
about a favorite book?
Celebrity Heads
- The commercial game Celebrity Heads would be a good activity
with multiple computers.
Circles
- Words or sentences that must start with the last letter in the
word or sentence returning to the original starting letter at the
completion of its email circuit.
- e.g. sword door, room, money, yes

Email Post Cards
A variation on Carmen San Diego.
- Students send clues about which country they are
visiting.
- Students should post 3 clues.
- e.g. flag colors, currency, natural features, sports, famous
citizens, geographical features or climatic conditions, national
dress, etc.
- Students should avoid giving Capital Cities, Languages (if
obvious), Current Leader or Famous Landmarks
- The Golden Rule is 3 strikes and you're out.
Guess Who
Based on the commercial game Guess Who. This is an opportunity to
send, read and reply to messages.
Game Rules
- Participants must guess identity of suspect.
- Only one piece of information maybe asked each email.
- Answers will be Yes or No.
- Gender cannot be asked as the first question.
- Categories include Hair Color, Eye Color, Spectacle, Hair
Length, Facial hair, Gender, etc.
Hangman
- Try an email version of this. Make it the spelling word of the
week.
Hosting
- Different people get to be a host for a week.
- They tell others about what they have done, discovered.
- Could be information, ideas, stories, funny things.
Investigative Journalist
- Investigate the way others work, play and live.
I Spy
- Could be simple. Could be hard.
- Could be in the school ground. Could be in the newspaper.
- What are the rules?
Keypals
Pen pals on email.
- Set it up carefully with the other school teacher
beforehand.
- Make a reply by time. e,g, A fortnight.
- Timetable the response and duration of the keypal
project.
LOTEing Along
- Create a LOTE exchange with another class.
- Write some of it in your LOTE language.
- Must be bilingual classes.
News (The)
- Junior School Council could keep the school informed about
what's happening at their meetings.
- Maybe there is other news to share from other classes and a
weekly/fortnightly report could be collated for different grades.
e.g. What are you doing.
Poetry Corner
Students will be able to express themselves creatively when they
write a:
- variety of poems every fortnight.
- Poem formats will be changed every 2 weeks and students will
be able to immerse themselves into a variety of different
poems.
- During the fortnight poems can be emailed, after which, they
will be collated into an anthology of children's writing.
Quizzes
Create a quiz.
- Don't make it too long.
- Use nursery rhymes, people, places, facts.
- Just about any thing you like.
Serial Story
- Start a story with another/other grades.
- Keep adding a paragraph or page until you have it
completed.
- Set a target date to finish it and then publish it for all to
see.
Survey
- Create a survey from SOSE/Science/Technology.
- Send it to other classes.
- Collate the results in Maths.
- Make a graph.
Transition Capers - Buddies
- Have the buddies pose a question each day for their buddies to
answer.
- Could be a joke, a game or a problem.
Transition Capers - Leaving School
- When students leave your school or visit set up an email
arrangement to soften the transition
Transition Capers - Primary - Secondary
- Set up an information forum from Year 6 to last year' Year
6.
- Have them ask questions and supply answers about the move to
secondary college.
Travel Buddy
Arrange an exchange with another class.
- Swap toys with the class. Include a book, pen, bag and your
buddy.
- Give them a name and email their adventures back to their host
school daily.
- Write it up with photos daily and arrange a class visit if
possible.

What's Happening
- News and information from the school.
Writer's Exchange
Students take part in a "Young Writers' Exchange".
- They work together in creating written pieces in a variety of
genre.
- They meet weekly for six weeks.
- Students send in their own stories for publishing and
comments.
The ideas for using email are almost
limitless and only require you to modify your ideas or any of the
above.
