Notebook Academy - SERCT Centre Eastern Metropolitan Region A WWW site set up for self paced or school based PD for teachers with notebook computers. Includes workshops on: File Management Installing Software and Altering Desktop Networking with my Computer File Compression and Projector Presentation Collecting Information Processing Information. Staff Notebook Computers

• School TSI technicians should set up computers for use on school network and for use at home
• Should include PowerPoint presentation and some basic PD about use of new Notebooks
• Transfer of any data from previous Notebooks
• Should be set up with a generic amount of school software e.g. MS Office and or Lotus SmartSuite, Kid Pix Studio, HyperStudio, Inspirations, etc.
• Should be set up for Internet access (if applicable)

School Network

• Access to WWW, public shared drives, folders, files, School Library system, etc.
• Should provide protection of files e.g. Password access to Curriculum server and workstations
• Virus protection i.e. Norton and information about updating

EduMail, EduLibrary and EduWeb Teachers should regularly check their EduMail account for recent information regarding this initiative. It maybe easier to check EduMail from home at night! Any recent information regarding Notebooks maybe found on EduLibrary.

Good Cheap Software

• Microsoft Products. DEET Packs (e.g.. MSPhotoDraw, Publisher) and other selected educational Microsoft products maybe available for use by staff. Priced from $9 to $18 and available through IPEX by School Purchase order.
• SnagIt or SnapShot - Screen Capture Software available from WWW. Capture images, computer desktop or selected areas of desktop for use in documents.
• Screen Cam - Creates video and audio movies of desktop. Available with Lotus SmartSuite 9.6 CD free as part of IBM ThinkPad package.

Self Paced Learning Modules Use only those relevant to your computer. i.e. MS Office 2000 Self paced Learning CD-ROMs based on earlier versions of MS Office (e.g. MS Office 95/97) will not operate correctly with your notebook computer).

Local Support

• Will be provided by the school’s IT support including DEET TSI technicians and local technicians.
• Develop a regular support network. e.g. email, newsletter or after school discussion and sharing session of what works for me
