Rome is the capital of Italy. It is also the largest city in Italy. It has a population of almost three million.

Rome was founded by Romulus in 753 BC after whom it was named. It is a very ancient city.

In the centre of Rome there are many beautiful churches, squares and fountains.

Today we can still see some of Rome's ancient monuments like the Colosseum.

The Colosseum was a public entertainment arena where Gladiators fought each other or battled wild animals. The Colosseum is almost 2000 years old.

The Basilica di San Pietro is an immense Roman Catholic Church in the Vatican City, home of the Pope.

Among the city's famous fountains is the popular "Trevi" fountain into which visitors traditionally throw coins.
